Atty. Robert R. LaLancette, 88, of Ashburnham

ASHBURNHAM – Attorney Robert R. "Bob" LaLancette, 88, of Ashburnham, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Health Alliance–Leominster Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 63 years, Catherine "Cathy" M. (Allen) LaLancette, who passed away peacefully at their home in Ashburnham on May 4, 2024, at the age of 83. Their life together was a beautiful reflection of the love they shared and the family and faith they cherished. He leaves behind his children, Robert J. and Cheryl LaLancette, Marc and Marian LaLancette, and Debra and Timothy Mercier. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Aimee and Eric Newcomb, Joshua and Nicole LaLancette, Peter LaLancette, Ryan Coney, Bridgette and John Shively, Danielle and Nick Romero, Courtney and Cameron Rodriquenz, and Adrienne and Kyle Maguy. He also leaves his cherished great-grandchildren, Benjamin and William Newcomb, Laken LaLancette, Zelie and John Shively, Isla Romero, and Caliana and Carina Rodriquenz, all of whom brought him immense joy. He was predeceased by his brother, Dr. Eugene A. LaLancette, M.D., who passed away in 2011. Born in Fitchburg on May 12, 1938, Bob was the son of Eugene J. and Bernadette (Joyal) LaLancette. A 1956 graduate of Saint Bernard's High School, Bob went on to graduate from the College of the Holy Cross in 1960. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. After his military service, he worked as a store manager for the W.T. Grant Company before pursuing his lifelong dream of becoming an attorney. Bob earned his Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School in 1972. He began his legal career with the law firm of Ware & Ware before opening his own practice in 1978, located in Fitchburg Savings Bank, now Rollstone Bank & Trust. For four decades, Bob provided trusted legal counsel to generations of families throughout the community, earning a reputation for integrity, compassion, and professionalism. He retired from the practice of law in 2012. In addition to his legal career, Bob served for ten years as Secretary and a member of the Board of Directors of Fitchburg Savings Bank, now Rollstone Bank & Trust, retiring from the board in 2013. Above all else, Bob was devoted to his family. He and Cathy treasured traveling together with family and friends, creating countless memories throughout the years. He found great happiness fishing, camping, and golfing across New England and especially cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his gentle nature, quiet wisdom, generosity, sense of humor, and steadfast love. His legacy lives on through the family he loved so deeply and the countless lives he touched throughout his career and community. The LaLancette family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, and caregivers at The Highlands and Health Alliance–Leominster Hospital for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Bob and his family during his final days. Family and friends are invited to calling hours at the Isabelle & Anderson Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon Street, Fitchburg, on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Denis Church, 85 Main Street, Ashburnham, on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Saint Bernard's Cemetery in Fitchburg.
