Richard Otis, 79, of Leominster

LEOMINSTER – Richard A. Otis, 79, of Leominster, formerly of Fitchburg and Worcester, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 31, 2025, at Hope Health Hospice in Providence, RI. His beloved wife of 31 years, Jean E. (Thomasian) Otis, passed away on January 30, 2015. Richard was born in Worcester on September 1, 1946, the son of the late Albert A. and Virginia (Berry) Otis, and grew up in Worcester. He attended Doherty Memorial High School and went on to earn his degree from Fitchburg State College. Until his retirement, Richard worked as a dedicated woodshop teacher in the Worcester and Tewksbury school systems, where he impacted countless students over the years. After retirement, Richard embraced life fully by traveling the world with his wife Jean and sharing countless adventures together. From exploring the canals of Venice to discovering the wonders of Egypt, traveling was one of his greatest joys, and he was grateful to have shared those experiences with Jean. Richard also had a deep passion for cooking. He loved hosting family and friends for holidays and dinners, always making sure that everyone was well-fed and happy. His love for food and hospitality was something he always was showing his granddaughters, Alexis and Olivia. He leaves behind many recipes for his family to enjoy. Family meant everything to Richard. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He especially loved cheering on his granddaughters at their tennis matches and was one of their biggest supporters, both on and off the court. Anyone who knew Dick knew how proud he was of his daughter and granddaughters, not only for their accomplishments, but for the kind, genuine people they became under his guidance. He taught them countless lessons over the years, always reminding them to greet everyone with a smile. He leaves his son-in-law, Sean P. Almy of Naples, Florida; his sister, Carol A. Avedisian of Millbury; and his beloved granddaughters, Alexis and Olivia Almy. In 2023, he was predeceased by his daughter, Samantha J. Almy of Naples, Florida.
