Laurent D. "Larry" Laberge

Laurent Donald "Larry" Laberge was called home to his savior on August 28th at the age of 96. Larry was born on July 16, 1930, the youngest son of Alfred and Emma (Marien) Laberge. He was predeceased by his brothers Joseph and Robert. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Priscilla Juliette (Plante), children Susan Babineau (David) of Rindge, NH, Sandra Rantala (Jorma) of Ashby, MA, Sharon Laberge, Mark Laberge, and Sherry Francis (John), all of Fitchburg, MA, grandchildren William Laberge and Nicole Francis of Fitchburg and Kimberly Levanti (Eric) of Westminster, MA. He was the proudest great-grandfather to Noelle and Dominic Levanti. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law Cliff Plante (Margaret) with whom he built a close and brotherly friendship, and several nieces and nephews. Larry and Priscilla were blessed to reside at their home until very recently due to the constant care provided by their son Mark. Larry lived his life with strong convictions to his faith, his family, his country, and the United States Marine Corps. Never without pets, the family menagerie always included dogs, with occasional appearances of cats, rabbits, ducks, and even a short adventure with a monkey. The family camp on Wyman’s Pond was a constant summer home as his family grew in both age and size. Many adventures were had, from ice hockey and snowmobiling in winter to boat rides and water skiing in summer. He loved to cook such specialties as homemade pizza, spaghetti marinara and an incredible clam chowder. Never was there a shortage at his table, as all were welcome at any time. He was always early to arrive at camp, and reluctant to leave when the fall weather turned wet and bone-chilling, often to the dismay of Priscilla. Upon the closure of the Madonna of The Holy Rosary in Fitchburg, Larry and Priscilla became parishioners of the St. Anthony of Padua parish in Fitchburg. Larry was employed by Aubuchon Hardware, the Great American Chemical Corporation of Fitchburg, followed by the United States Postal Service until his retirement. Larry served in many leadership positions at The American Legion Post 429 in Cleghorn, including as Post Commander, and was a member of the Marine Corps League. At his request, there are no calling hours. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 8 at 11AM in Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 84 Salem Street, Fitchburg, MA. Interment will follow at the Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon, MA immediately following the service. The Isabelle & Anderson Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon St., Fitchburg is assisting the family. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to the VA Medical Centers in Worcester, West Roxbury and Jamaica Plain, all the doctors and staff who provided constant and marvelous care. We also thank Ascend Hospice home care, the staff at Oakdale Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in West Boylston along with the hospice care team from JHC Hospice in Worcester, MA. All of Larry’s changing medical needs and challenges were graciously and promptly provided by all.
