Larry F. Murray

Townsend - Larry F. Murray, 84, of Townsend and the Villages, FL, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of patriotism, and devoted service to his country and family. Born in Illinois to Martin M. and Gladys S. (Ryder) Murray, Larry was raised with strong values of hard work, loyalty, and determination that guided him throughout his life. In high school Larry was on the wrestling team, worked at a gas station, a jewelry counter at the local mom and pop, and spent just one day working in a wheat field. He was happiest went tinkering and fixing anything and everything. He especially loved rebuilding engines and restoring his beloved Ford T-Bird with his dad. After graduating from Wichita Southeast High School, Larry spent a few years as a stock car racer and continued his lifelong passion for classic cars and his love for a candy apple red ’63 Corvette, his muscle car of choice. Driven by a deep sense of patriotism and commitment to serving his country, Larry enlisted in the United States Army in 1963. What began as a calling soon became a distinguished military career spanning 22 years. During his service, he completed his training and earned his wings. As an aviator, he proudly served tours in Vietnam, flying Hueys and Chinooks, during a difficult and defining period in American history. Throughout his military career, Larry received several medals, including the Bronze Star (BSM), and commendations in recognition of his service, leadership, and bravery. He was respected by those who served alongside him and took great pride in wearing the uniform of his country. After years of honorable and faithful service, Larry retired from the Army in 1984. After his military retirement Larry went on to become a corporate pilot for Raytheon and GTECH and lastly as a private pilot for The Answer Group (TAG) and the Quinn Family; flying Beechcraft, Cessna and Embraer jets. Larry took his final flight into full retirement one month prior to his 80th birthday. His next stop was The Villages, FL where Larry and Gloria lived up their Golden years driving their golf cart, dancing, dining and enjoying the company of family and friends. He possessed a captivating and magnetic personality that naturally drew people to him. Larry had a remarkable ability to light up a room with his positivity, humor, and genuinely kind nature. Larry enjoyed hot sunny days, a southern sweet iced tea, black raspberry ice cream and car shows where he could roam for hours. Above all else, Larry was fiercely devoted to his family. He was a protector, a source of strength, and a constant presence for those he loved. He treasured every moment spent with family and took immense pride in their lives and accomplishments. For more than 40 years, Larry looked forward to annual family summer vacations in North Conway, New Hampshire, a tradition his family will continue. Larry’s daily “happy good morning” and “love ya lovey” will forever be pillars of sentiment for his family. Larry is survived by his children, Kimberly Rowley and her husband James, Keith Murray, Kara Murray, and Katrina Murray-Damiano and her husband Evan; grandchildren, Ashlee and Bryanna Rowley, Zachary Davis and his wife Denisse, Madison Davis and Everly Damiano; a sister, Dian Anderson; several nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends in both Massachusetts and Florida, that were so dear to him. Larry was predeceased by his brother Richard Murray. His beloved wife of 60 years, Gloria J. Murray, passed away on June 30, 2026. Larry and Gloria; once united in life, now united in eternity. Calling hours for both Larry and Gloria will be held on Thursday, August 6, from 4-7pm in the Anderson Funeral Home, 250 Main St., Townsend, MA 01469. Full Military Burial Services in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH will be held on Friday, August 7, at 1:00pm.
