Keith Paul Walter

ASHBY - Keith Paul Walter, 61, of Ashby, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, September 14, 2023. Keith was born on October 10, 1961 in Boston, MA and was the oldest son of Paul Francis and Elaine Ann Walter of Ashby. Keith grew up in Westford, and attended Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua, NH, where he was a defenseman on the hockey team. Keith had a brilliant mind. He attended UMass Lowell where he graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Keith went on to be employed by the Smithsonian Institute and worked on the Hubble Telescope. After obtaining a M.S. from UMass Lowell, Keith was employed by Leonardo DRS for 25 years where he worked on many marine technologies and high-security projects for the U.S. Navy. Keith was an athlete and an avid sports fan – enjoying the New England Patriots, Boston Bruins, and the Red Sox. He hosted many Super Bowl parties for friends and family at his home in Ashby. Keith spent many years playing and coaching hockey, soccer, and baseball where he formed many friendships. He was known for his slapshot on the ice. He also loved music. His favorite bands were The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. Keith was an ardent fisherman and spent every Monday with his dad, Paul, and his two sons on the boat fishing for striped bass out of Newburyport on the Merrimack River. They caught many fish and even created their own personal “Striper Cup” for the one who caught the biggest fish of the season. Keith loved his family very much. He enjoyed spending time with his parents and helped to take care of them in their later years. He also loved his German Shepherds – Baloo, Frodo, Odie, Brutus – and he leaves behind his baby, and only girl Shepherd, Nina, who stood beside him when he died. Keith was predeceased by his father, Paul F. Walter. He is survived by his two sons, Paul Joseph and Brian Keith Walter of Ashby his mother Elaine A. Walter of Ashby, his sister Christine E. Brown and her husband Michael A. Brown of Newbury, his brother Kurt A. Walter of Shirley, his niece Kiley McElroy-Brown and her wife Kayla of Amesbury, and his nephew Ian Brown and his wife Katie of Raymond, NH. He also leaves behind his ex-wife, Carla Aquilia. Visiting hours will be held at Anderson Funeral Home, 250 Main St, Townsend, on Friday, September 22nd, 2023, from 2:00 - 5:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to German Shepherd Rescue of New England (gsrne.org).
