Dolores "Doddie" Normandin

Fitchburg - Dolores, or Doddie as she liked to be called, passed away on July 1, 2024 in her home, surrounded by her children. Born on August 1, 1933, Doddie grew up in Sault Ste. Marie on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. She graduated Loretto High School in 1951, held an affiliated diploma from the Catholic University of America, Washington D.C., was a member of the National Honor Society and a newspaper staff typist when she lived in Michigan. In Michigan, during the summer of 1950, Doddie met Joseph Normandin at the “Wilds,” a dance club on Riverside Drive. They were married on February 21, 1952 and moved to Fitchburg, MA to start their life, where they enjoyed 64 years together prior to his death. Their love was a shining example to all who knew them. Dolores began working in the credit department of Sears and continued to excel in other accounting and administrative roles, ending with a 40+ year professional career at Ford Motor Company as an Office Manager. She cultivated and cherished many a friendship with those with whom she worked. Dolores was an inspiring example of the faith she practiced, demonstrating love for those in need, donating her time and money, showing her support to all those in her life as well as those she didn’t even know. She loved gardening and was very crafty - making wreaths, sewing, cooking, knitting and other handiwork. She was an active mother and grandmother, ever-present at events, supportive in every way of the activities and interests of those she loved. She is remembered most for kindness and generosity, her faith, and being a true illustration of ideal motherhood, sisterhood and friendship. Dolores is survived by her beloved son, retired Fitchburg Deputy Fire Chief Gregg Normandin, of Fitchburg; her daughter, Gilda M Horgan, of Fitchburg; her two beautiful grandchildren, Tyler Horgan and Oliver Horgan; and many treasured nieces and nephews who were so kind to call or visit in later years. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Lilian Romano, by her husband Joseph Normandin and his nine siblings, and by her own nine siblings whom she greatly missed. A wake will be held on Friday, August 2nd, at the Isabelle & Anderson Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon St., Fitchburg, MA from 4:00pm-7:00pm. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 3rd, at 11:00am at St. Joseph's Parish, 49 Woodland St, Fitchburg, MA. Burial will be held privately.
