David R. Bingham

BROOKLINE, NH - David R. “Cliffy” Bingham, Sr., 71, passed away April 27, 2023 at his home in Brookline. He was born in Fitchburg on August 9, 1951 of the late Donald and Emily (Brown) Bingham and had resided in Townsend for several years before later moving to Brookline. Cliffy was an instrumental part of the family owned-and-operated Bingham Lumber Company since its conception in 1946 and was still helping with day-to-day operations. Cliffy attended Fitchburg Public Schools, served in the United States Coast Guard and later took to aviation, becoming an accomplished pilot. He was a self-made, self-taught millwright, designing and building many pieces of production equipment. Cliffy also enjoyed playing hockey, golf, snowmobiling, hunting, and riding his Harley; all of this played second-fiddle to the love of his life, Joycie, and his children and grandchildren. He faithfully attended every single event that his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren ever participated in. He was a dog whisperer, baby calmer, and the king of questionable jokes (those who knew him knew of his famous one-liners well). Cliffy dutifully supported all of his wife’s ideas and carried out many of Joyce’s visions of party and holiday decor. If you were a friend of someone he loved, you were as good as gold to him. Cliffy’s finest hour was when someone was in need. He did not know any different. He was just simply there. He is predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Joyce J. (Tapply) Bingham. He leaves his two sons, David Bingham Jr. and his wife Kristine, and Thomas Bingham and his wife Rebekah; five grandchildren, Amanda, Abigail, Zachary, Wyatt, and Gianna; two great-grandchildren, Timothy and Troy; a brother, Donald Bingham Jr. and his wife Eileen, a brother in law Robert Hartwell and his predeceased sister, Carol Hartwell, and several nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 3 at 11:00AM in the Townsend Congregational Church at 3 Brookline St., Townsend.
