Carmen M. (Maillet) Richard

Ayer – Carmen M. (Maillet) Richard, 82, formerly of Westford, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024 after an illness. Carmen was born in Ste. Anne de Kent, NB, Canada on March 22, 1941, one of nine children born to Gerard Maillet and Rita (Arsenault) (Maillet) Richard. Prior to moving to the United States, she worked as a teacher in New Brunswick, a job she fondly remembered. Carmen worked for many years at the Purity Supreme corporate office before managing the business office at the Westford House, until her retirement. Always a hard and dedicated worker, Carmen took pride in her positions, but she was most proud of the family she and her husband, Normand raised. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, whether playing cards or sharing meals, and loved her shopping trips to Marshalls and TJ Maxx. She especially looked forward to her annual summer vacations to New Brunswick, which she called “God’s Country” the minute she crossed the border. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Normand Richard; son Maurice Richard; daughter Michele Granger and husband Scott; beloved grandchildren, Nicholas and Emily Granger, whom she adored, all of Ayer. She is also survived by her siblings, Marielle Bouchard of Moncton, NB, Aline Arsenault of Moncton, NB, Cecile Scott of Bridgewater, NS; sisters in law, Rose Marie (Richard) Lizotte of Fitchburg, Claudette Maillet of Moncton, NB, Bernice Maillet of Moncton, NB; brother in law, Gilles Godbout of Grand Falls, NB; and many nieces and nephews, and godchildren. Carmen was predeceased by her siblings, Bernice Daigle, Omer Maillet, Guy Maillet, Ginette Godbout, and Laurie Maillet. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of The Highlands in Fitchburg who cared for Carmen at the end of her illness. A calling hour will be held in the Anderson Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Rd., Ayer, on Wednesday, February 28, from 10-11am. A funeral service will begin at 11am.
