SHIRLEY - Toby J. Nolan, 80 of Shirley, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2022. Born in Massillon, Ohio on January 2, 1942, Toby was the son to the late Joseph W., and Marie (Hood) Nolan. A long and dedicated career in the military, Toby was a proud member of the United States Army for 21 years. While in the military, Toby met the love of his life Phyllis, who he shared 60 wonderful years. They raised their two daughters Diane and Sherry, in the military. When he retired they resided in Shirley for the past 40 years. In addition to Toby’s military career, he was an active member of the American Legion Post 183 in Shirley. Toby was an outgoing man; he was always the life of the party. He was a caring man, who loved his family and friends and would do anything for anyone. He was an avid sports fan who was passionate for Red Sox, Patriots and the Ohio Buckeyes. He enjoyed dog sitting for people in the area; playing corn hole, darts, golf, and poker. He also loved the outdoors and took pride in yard work and working on cars. Toby is lovingly survived by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis Ann (Pranouskes) Nolan; daughters, Diane Nolan of Shirley, Sherry Nolan-Hess, and her husband Kevin of Jefferson. He is also survived by family members in Massachusetts including the Cottons, Benoits and Mitchells of Leominster. He also has the Dimos family in Ohio. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 10:00 AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 14 Phoenix Street, Shirley. Calling Hours will be held on Friday, May 13, 2022, from 4-7 PM in Anderson Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Road, Ayer.
