Stephen D. Perreault, of Hyannis, formerly of Shirley and Watertown, passed away unexpectedly in his home in Hyannis on Monday, October 21, 2019. Stephen was born in Shirley on July 19, 1954, a son of the late Donald and Maryanne (Slocumb) Perreault. He grew up in Shirley, graduated from Notre Dame High School in Fitchburg and received a Bachelor’s degree from Clark University in Worcester and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Northeastern University in Boston. Stephen worked as an Education Consultant at the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown for most of his career. In 2015 he was awarded the prestigious Anne Sullivan Macy Medal recognizing his almost four decades of service to the deafblind community. He was instrumental in launching programs for the deafblind throughout South America and the Caribbean which now serve tens of thousands of children. Since his retirement in 2015, he has enjoyed the beach and cherished time with family and friends. He leaves his sister, Brenda Perreault and her husband Patrick Connolly of Groton, beloved nieces Bailey Edward and Kelsey Johnson, and grand-niece and nephew, Violet and Wilder along with many dear friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a brother, David Perreault and a sister, Elaine Johnson. A memorial service for Steve will be held at St. James Church, 13 St. James Avenue, Groton on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 2pm.
