FITCHBURG-Raymond Rousseau, 92, formerly of Fitchburg, died Thursday evening, August 2, 2018, in the Soldiers Home in Chelsea where he has resided for the past 6 1/2 years. Mr. Rousseau was born in Fitchburg, on March 18, 1926, a son of the late Arthur F. and Clara (Godin) Rousseau and had resided on Clarendon St. for his entire life before moving to Chelsea. He was a proud recipient of the Ambassador of Peace Medal for his service during the Korean War as a soldier in the U.S. Army. Many years ago he worked at the former Watatic Spinning Mills in Fitchburg before going to work at the Fitchburg Public Works Department during which time he enjoyed many years working as the caretaker of Coggshall Park. He also worked as the caretaker and the housekeeper for the late Joseph and Louis Isabelle at the Funeral Home. Mr. Rousseau was a member of the AMVETS in Cleghorn where he enjoyed spending a many Friday night at the Post. He was the brother of the late Alda (Rousseau) Renda, Lloyd Rousseau, Andre Rousseau and Marcel Rousseau. He is survived by several nephews and nieces including Cherie Driscoll of Winthrop who was his caregiver. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 12:00 PM in the Isabelle and Anderson Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon St. Burial will be in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Soldiers Home Recreation Fund, 91 Crest Ave., Chelsea, MA 02150, attn: John Davis.
