Peter A Lareau

ASHBY; Peter A. Lareau, 82, of Ashby, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at his home. Pete was born in Leominster, April 4, 1939, the son of the late Peter C. and Irene J. (Lareau) Lareau and resided most of his life in Ashby. He was a 1957 graduate of Ashby High School. For over 60 years Pete owned and operated Pete’s Barber Shop in Townsend Center. He was a member of St. John’s Church in Townsend, St. Joseph Club in Fitchburg and enjoyed making an occasional trip to the horse track. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and his time spent at Lake Winnipesaukee. Pete was an avid sports fan and had an encyclopedic memory for professional sports statistics. He was an excellent billiards player and frequently shot pool with his nephew, Brian. He leaves two nephews, James G. Downes and his companion, Lucia Ford, of Shirley, Brian Downes of Groton and his grandniece, Samantha Downes of Shirley. He was the brother of the late Shirley M. Downes of Groton who died in December 2018. Pete’s family will receive relatives and friends at calling hours 2-5 PM Sunday, March 6, 2022 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 250 Main Street, (Rte 119) Townsend Center.
