Kathleen M. (Gallagher) Sacino
April 25, 1917 - January 10, 2021
FITCHBURG: Kathleen M. Sacino, formerly of Oak Hill Road, Fitchburg, died at the age of 103 on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at Oakdale Nursing Facility, West Boylston. Kathleen was born in the Allston neighborhood of Boston on April 25, 1917. She was the daughter of Irish immigrants John and Kathleen (O’Hara) Gallagher and resided most of her life in Fitchburg. She graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1935, and then after raising 4 children, went back to continue her education and earn a degree in Teaching from Springfield College, Springfield, Massachusetts in 1973. Kathleen (“Kay”) worked many years as a Teacher in the Head Start program for the City of Fitchburg in West Fitchburg. Following, she was Assistant Director of the Westminster Pre-School Center, Westminster Massachusetts, retiring in 1988. She leaves behind three sons, David Sacino of Clinton, Philip Sacino of Palm Springs, CA, and Bruce Sacino of Nantucket; seven grandchildren, Michael Sacino, Kara Gallant, Melissa Walsh, Jamie Sacino, Brianna Doo, Chenin Ludwig, Alisa Sacino; and 17 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving daughter, Kathleen R. Roy of Cape Coral, FL in December 2020. She was the sister of the late John Gallagher of Boston and Ann Bowers of Appleton, Wisconsin. Her husband of 59 years, Philip A. Sacino, passed away in 2008. Kay and Phil loved to play Bingo and did so most nights of the week in their retirement. They saw the country from one coast to the other and Hawaii and Alaska too, but they never could get the sand of the Cape out of their shoes and would spend most of the summertime there. Kathleen’s sweetest joy though was being with children. As a teacher they ran to her side and listened to her voice. As a grandmother, she never smiled more than when she was circled by her grandchildren or when she would hold the little ones in her lap. “Grandma Nino”, they would all call her name. She was a former member of the Ladies Guild of the Madonna of the Holy Rosary Church in Fitchburg and later a member of St Bernard’s Church at St Camillus in Fitchburg. After living in her own home until 101, Kathleen had resided at Oakdale Skilled Nursing Center in West Boylston, Massachusetts. The family would like to acknowledge the loving, compassionate care of the Oakdale staff and their unequaled dedication to their family of residents. We are forever grateful. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM Friday, January 15, 2021 at St. Bernard’s Parish at St. Camillus de Lellis Church, 333 Mechanic Street, Fitchburg. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Mrs. Sacino’s family will receive family and friends at calling hours 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM Friday, January 15th at Isabelle & Anderson Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon Street, Fitchburg.
