Joann St. Cyr Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Athol- Joann (Lawn) St. Cyr, 73, of Athol, formerly of Fitchburg and Townsend, passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lowell on July 13, 1949, a daughter of the late James F. Lawn and Kamilla J. (Fretchova) Varga, and grew up in California, graduating from high school in Los Angeles and receiving her bachelor degree in Education from the University of Southern California. Joann was a teacher at North Middlesex Regional High School before going to work at New England Business Service and later Deluxe Business Products for many years prior to her retirement. Joann was the penultimate nurturer and one of her greatest joys was cooking for her family. Every Thanksgiving (her favorite holiday) she took delight in gathering her family and loved ones for her biggest meal of the year. She was a truly artistic person. Her passions included drawing, painting, quilting and cross stitching. She loved music, serving as a choir member for St. Camillus Church for many years and also loved to sing with her family, with many a Saturday night filled with family sing-a-longs. She was also an adventurous soul with a passion for her Irish heritage, collecting many trinkets, knick-knacks and souvenirs of her beloved Ireland. It mattered not what the item was, if it had to do with Ireland, she wanted it. Joann treated everyone like family. If you were in her home visiting, you were family as soon as you walked in the door, including domestic and some wild animals. Joann loved the color blue and her family requests that you honor her memory by wearing something blue to her services. Her husband of 42 years, Albert N. St. Cyr died in 2016. She leaves a son, Matthew A. St. Cyr and his wife, Holly of Athol; two daughters, AnnMarie E. Crocker and her husband Michael of Gardner, and Katherine L. Swanson and her husband, Wayne of Athol; two grandsons, Michael A. Janssens and Christian B. Janssens; a brother, Stephan A. Varga and his wife Jill of Woodbury, CT; a sister, Patricia A. Lawn of Fitchburg and several nephews and nieces and beloved lifetime friend of 68 years, Cleta Cotter and her son Chris of Townsend, MA. Her funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 9, at 11 AM in St. Bernard's Parish at St. Camillus de Lellis Church, 333 Mechanic St., Fitchburg. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 8, from 4-7 PM in the T.J. Anderson and Son Funeral Home, 250 Main St,. Townsend.
