    Helder Botto

    May 30, 1951 - November 6, 2021

    FITCHBURG: Helder Botto, 70, of Fitchburg, formerly of Leominster and Auburn, died Saturday, November 6, 2021 after losing his battle from Covid 19 at Leominster Hospital. Mr. Botto was born May 30,1951 and raised in Entroncamento, Portugal. Helder was the son of the late Américo dos Santos Botto and Rosa Henriques and served as a Ranger in the Special Forces of the Portuguese Army before immigrating to the United States in 1975. Mr. Botto spent 45 years of his career in the wire & cable business and was currently the plant manager at Horizon Wire & Cable Company in Leominster. Helder excelled as an athlete his entire life. As a young man he played professional handball for Sporting in Portugal. Helder was also a long time coach. He first coached roller hockey and soccer in Portugal and upon immigrating he began coaching soccer in several capacities including: youth, club, elite, Auburn & Montachusett Regional High School and Fitchburg State College. Helder was also an avid cyclist and belonged to many cycling groups in central MA. He leaves a daughter Monica B. Botto of Cape Cod; daughter Isabella A. Botto and son Dante A.Botto of Fitchburg; two grandchildren, Elliott Peterson and Simona Tanis both of Cape Cod; a nephew, Francisco Botto of Crystal Lake, IL; a niece, Rose Marie Botto St. Germain of Lunenburg; and his former wife, Bethany L. (Lawrence) Johnson of Hubbardston. Helder was the youngest of five siblings. He is survived by his sister Laura H. Botto Ferreira of Entroncamento, Portugal. He was preceded in death by his brothers; Manuel Botto of Ashburnham, António H. Botto and José dos Santos Botto both of Portugal. Mr. Botto’s family will receive family and friends at a visitation period Sunday, November 21, 2021 from 1-2:30 PM at the Isabelle & Anderson Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon Street, Fitchburg.
