    Gerene B. (Melanson) Maloney

    September 11, 1937 - February 20, 2021

    LUNENBURG - Gerene B. (Melanson) Maloney, 83 of Lunenburg passed away peacefully with family by her side on February 20, 2021. Gerene was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, a daughter of the late Napoleon and Dorilla (Williams) Melanson, on September 11, 1937 and came to the United States at the age of nine. She attended school in Fitchburg, MA Waterbury, CT and Moncton NB. She began her career working at Weyerhaeuser and Crocker paper companies as well as Independent Lock. After staying home to raise her children and run her curtain business, Gerene later worked as a receptionist at Nova Corp (Leominster) and Setra (Boxboro) before retiring. There was nothing Gerene couldn't sew! She was a talented seamstress who not only sewed clothes including her sister's wedding dress, as well as countless alterations, but created some of the most beautiful custom draperies for her own clients as well as those from Ralph Jordans (Acton) and Plotkins (Leominster). Cooking and cake decorating were other talents she enjoyed throughout her life. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake for nearly 50 years. Her first husband James Maloney passed away in 1993. They enjoyed a full life together with many travels to Europe, Canada, South America, a road trip to Alaska, skiing, boating and lots of ballroom dancing. Jim helped in Gerene's custom draperies by designing and coordinating the installation of her work. Her second husband, Charles Sanguinet passed away in 2018. She leaves a son, Grant Maloney his wife Kristi of Ashburnham; her daughter Gisele Maloney of Lunenburg; a brother Armand Melanson and sister-in-law Kathleen of FL; a sister Odette of Lunenburg, a sister-in-law Sheila (Maloney) Connor of Rothesay, Bute Scotland, 3 aunts and 2 uncles in New Brunswick; four grandchildren, Andrew Shepherd, Marie Shepherd, James Maloney and Ryan Maloney, several nieces and nephews from FL, NH, NJ, MA, Scotland, England to British Columbia. In addition to her husbands, she is predeceased by a son Glen Maloney. Her funeral mass will be celebrated in private due to Covid-19 restrictions.
