Charles J. “Jay” Murphy, Jr., 81, of Townsend, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning, July 6, 2021. He was born in Clinton on March 19, 1940, a son of the late Charles J., Sr., and Eleanor (Hackett) Murphy and was a lifelong resident of Townsend. He graduated from Spaulding Memorial High School in 1958 and the former Ward Business School in Worcester. Mr. Murphy was employed at the former Warren Dielectric in Littleton for over 20 years and New England Business Service in Townsend for over 35 years. For many of those years he was employed at both companies and worked double shifts. He was an avid Red Sox Fan and cherished his time spent at his home in Wells, Maine. He leaves his wife of 58 years, Sheila R. (Gorham) Murphy of Townsend; two sons, Sean C. Murphy and his wife Margaret S. of Germantown, MD and Scott M. Murphy and his significant other, Tracy Griffin of Townsend; three grandchildren, Macklin S. Murphy, Margaret R. Murphy and Mikaela L. Murphy and several nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by a brother, Daniel J. Murphy of Townsend and a sister, Margaret J. Bennett of Ashburnham. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 12, 2021 at 10AM in St., John’s the Evangelist Church, 1 School St., Townsend. Burial will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 11, 2021, from 2 to 5PM in the T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 250 Main St., Townsend.
