Rosa Lee Jones

AYER: Rosa Lee (Pettway) Jones, 87, of Ayer, died Monday, September 5, 2022 at University of Massachusetts – Memorial Hospital, Worcester. Mrs. Jones was born in Boykin, Alabama, August 4, 1935 one of sixteen children born to Clay and Leah (Jessup) Pettway and as a result of her husband’s military career, resided in many locations throughout the world before settling in Ayer forty six years ago. Mrs. Jones had worked as PC Board Specialist at Controlonics Company (formerly Whistler Corp.) in Westford before retiring in 1988. Previously, she had worked as a school aide in the Ayer Public School System. Mrs. Jones with her husband, Tom, known better as Deaconess Mother Jones and Deacon Tom Jones are among the original founding members of the New Hope Community Church in Ayer. She currently remained very active there in a host of capacities and positions. Prior to attending New Hope Community Church, she was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Worcester and the former Calvary Baptist Church in Ayer. Mrs. Jones leaves her husband of sixty three years, Thomas W. Jones Sr.; her daughter, Crystal Felix and her husband, Michael, of Fitchburg, her, Thomas W. Jones Jr. and his wife, Dewan of Mansfield, TX and youngest daughter Rose Linda Jones of Shirley; two brothers, Wilene Pettway of Bridgeport, CT, Samuel Pettway of Alabama three sisters, Eartha Mae Foster of Bridgeport, CT, Shirley Goode of Atlanta Ga and Corrine Myles of Alabama; seven grandchildren, Erica Spann, Jessica Spann, Julian Felix, Jillian Nieto and her husband, Jeremie, Justin Felix, Jadyn Jones, Graciella Jones and two great grandchildren, Rihana Spann and Amaria Felix. In 1978 she was predeceased by her daughter, Sharon Ann Jones of Ayer. She was also the sister of the late Berry Pettway, Rodan Pettway, James Pettway, Henderson Pettway, Earl Pettway all of Bridgeport, CT, and sisters Annielie Pettway, JC Pettway, Daniel Pettway and Meridian Pettway all of Alabama. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at New Hope Community Church, 139 Sandy Pond Road, Ayer. Interment will follow at Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery, Winchendon. Mrs. Jones’ family will receive relatives and friends at calling hours 4-7 PM Monday, September 12, 2022 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Road (Rte 2A) Ayer.
