Robert L. Brassard

Fitchburg – Robert L. “Bob” Brassard, 86, a lifelong resident of Fitchburg, passed away peacefully on August 10, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born in Fitchburg on June 8, 1940, the youngest of eight children born to the late Auguste and Domina (Boudreau) Brassard. Bob grew up in Fitchburg, where he spent his younger years working at his family’s taxi cab stand, Cleghorn Taxi Co. From an early age, Bob had a love for baseball. He always looked back fondly on his days playing Little League and was especially proud to share that he was the pitcher in the very first Little League game ever played in Fitchburg. He was an avid baseball fan throughout his life, always rooting for the Red Sox. He also enjoyed a good football game as well, especially the Giants and the Patriots. As a young man in 1957, Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving his country and attaining the rank of Lance Corporal before receiving his honorable discharge. Upon returning home, Bob married his beloved wife, Judy Roberts, and together they built their family. Bob also began a career that would span over 50 years at the former Fitchburg Paper/Munksjö, where he worked as a papermaker. Early in his retirement, Bob volunteered to drive cancer patients to their medical appointments. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed watching TV and playing cards. He took great pleasure in making poutines with his family and cherished sharing a good meal with family and friends. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family; he always enjoyed get-togethers with his siblings, attending all of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, and was always there to help anyone in need without hesitation. He is survived by his two sons, David Brassard and wife Rachel of Fitchburg, Michael Brassard and wife Stacey of Ashburnham; grandchildren, Hannah Durepo and husband Dane, and their children, Reese and Jett, Connor Brassard and fiancé Julia Sprofera, Brittany Brassard and her son Theo, Drew Brassard and his son Levi, and Troy Brassard. He was also “Uncle Bobby” to many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Bob was predeceased by his wife Judy (Roberts) Brassard in 2000; his siblings, Raphael “Ralph”, Paul, Charles “Charlie”, Bernard “Benny”, Leonard “Titi”, Conrad, and Rachel Bryce. A calling hour will be held in the Isabelle & Anderson Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon St., Fitchburg on Tuesday, August 18, from 10-11am. A prayer service in the funeral home will begin at 11am, followed by burial in Saint Bernard’s Cemetery.
