Patricia Ellen (Mungovan) (Morse) Szymkowski, 77, of Ayer found eternal peace on Saturday, December 23. She was surrounded by her loving family. The first female Mungovan born to the family in 75 years, Pat’s birth on the Fourth of July, 1946 was indeed a celebration. Raised in Forge Village, Pat made lifelong friends and was a 1964 graduate of Westford academy. Pat raised her family in Leominster and Ayer. She worked at Shriver Job Corps and as a school bus driver; she absolutely loved children. Pat enjoyed her life in Shirley with her husband Walter. Family was everything. Pat leaves behind her eldest daughter Debra, son in law Mark and her treasured grandchildren Rebecca and Jameson. Her son Brian and daughter Alison were devoted, tireless and faithful caregivers who along with her brother Richard and very special friends moved heaven and earth allowing her to remain in her home throughout her period of declining health. She is predeceased by her parents James and Jeanne (Parmentier) Mungovan, her eldest brother James Jr., sister-in-law Linda and her beloved husband Walter. Pat leaves behind her cherished family and friends. Born right in the middle with four brothers, she leaves her older brother Richard, and her younger brothers William and Robert, and her sisters in law Roseanne and Nancy. Pat leaves treasured nieces, nephews and in laws. The family would like to thank ascend hospice and our dear friend B who took care of not only Pat but the entire family during these last few months. There are truly angels in this world. Pat was a beloved daughter, sister, mother and grandmother and aunt. Pat was truly happiest with her family and friends. Hours spent playing cards, Uno, baking and cooking with love for family are memories we will hold dear. Always smiling, she saw the best in everyone and appreciated life’s simplest pleasures. Pat always made sure that those around her knew how much she loved them. We will miss her immensely. Calling hours will be held in the Anderson Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Rd., Ayer, on Thursday, January 4, from 4-7pm. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 5 at 10:30am in St. Anthony’s Church, 14 Phoenix Street, Shirley followed by burial in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
