Michael "Mike" Mahoney

Fitchburg – Michael R. “Mike” Mahoney, 68, formerly of CT and Townsend, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026 in the Fitchburg Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Mike was born on March 9, 1958, a son of the late Robert and Donna - Mary (Pelton) Mahoney. Born and raised in Connecticut, Mike later made his home in Massachusetts, where he met his wife Darlene and began building the family that was everything to him. A dedicated and skilled craftsman, he spent many years working in construction before proudly becoming the owner and operator of Summit Construction Services. Through years of hard work, he built not only a successful roofing business, but a wonderful reputation, having worked on many local establishments. In his younger years and living life to its fullest, Mike traveled across the country, working along the way to support each new endeavor. One of his proudest experiences was venturing out and traveling the entirety of Route 6. He enjoyed reflecting back and telling the stories of his time on the road as well as the days he spent as a DJ, which he enjoyed greatly. An avid outdoorsman, he found happiness in fishing, hunting, boating, and camping. Whether by the water, in the woods, or simply sitting outside with family and friends, he was most at home in nature. He also had a deep love for music, which served as both comfort and escape throughout his life. Known for his wonderful sense of humor, Mike had a way of making people laugh and feel at ease. Above all else, he loved his family very much and always put them first. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Darlene (Santerre) Mahoney of Fitchburg; children, Jenny Zimmer and her husband Ben of Rindge, NH, Jason Mahoney and his wife Amy of Pepperell, Julie Morrissette and her husband Dennis of Ashby. He was also a loving Papa to five grandchildren, Camrin, Phoenix, Evan, Griffin, and Lily. Mike leaves his three siblings, Robert Mahoney and wife Noreen of Pepperell, Sean Mahoney and wife Dolly of Gardner, Bonnie Mahoney and wife Rebecca Cain of Orange; brother in law Larry Santerre of Fitchburg, and many nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his nephew Danny Chartier. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced.
