Matthew E. Costich, of Luenburg

Lunenburg – Matthew E. Costich, 57, of Lunenburg, passed away Sunday morning, August 16, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family after a yearlong courageous fight against metastatic melanoma. Matt was born in Rochester, New York, on July 29, 1969, the son of the late Dennis Costich and Mary (Asip) Costich. As a young boy, he moved to Acton with his family, where he was raised and educated. He was a 1987 graduate of Acton-Boxborough High School. Matt continued his education at Paul Smith’s College, where he earned his associate degree in Arboriculture & Landscape Management, and later received his bachelor’s degree in business from Bentley University. He has resided in Lunenburg since 2000. Matt spent his career working in the arborist industry. Matt was a Certified Arborist (MCA & ISA). He most recently served as an Operations Manager for SavATree, Inc. in Lincoln, MA, where he was respected for his knowledge, dedication, and commitment to his work. He trained and mentored countless young climbers and arborists, generously sharing the skill and professionalism that defined his own career. Matt was an Eagle Scout and he shared his love of scouting with his son. He was a Scout Leader for Lunenburg Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop 1728. He shared his love of soccer with his daughter. They enjoyed playing together every week in many leagues, including the SOL (Sad Old & Lonely) league. He supported his children’s passion for sports with countless hours cooking in the Lunenburg Bengal snack shack. He leaves his wife of 26 years, Colleen M. (Lewitt) Costich of Lunenburg; a son, Christopher W. Costich of Lunenburg; a daughter, Sarah E. Costich of Lunenburg; his mother, Mary (Asip) Costich of Stratham, NH; two sisters, Suzanne (John) Cordeiro of Rochester, NY, and Jennifer Mayall of Wernersville, PA; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 24, at 11:00 AM in St. Boniface Church, 817 Massachusetts Avenue, Lunenburg. There are no calling hours. The Anderson Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Road, Ayer, is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Club - Lunenburg Teen Center, 15 Memorial Dr. Lunenburg MA 01462.
