Josephine M. "Phine" (McGuane) Wallace

AYER: Josephine M. “Phine” (McGuane) Wallace, 90, a long-time Ayer resident died March 21, 2023, at her home. Her husband of 67 years, Donald R. Wallace, died this past February 4th. Phine was born in Ayer, on February 9, 1933, the daughter of Paul K. and Mary C. (Horgan) McGuane, and was a 1951 graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Tyngsboro. Phine’s work career included several and varied positions including a van driver for Dee Bus in Shirley, office personnel at the Groton School in Groton, lunch lady at Notre Dame Academy in Tyngsboro, and telephone operator for New England Telephone. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Parish in Ayer and was a member of its Catholic Daughters of America and Catholic Youth Organization. She also was a member of the Pleasant Street School Preservation Committee. She leaves two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph D. and Terry Wallace, Marty D., and Kathleen Wallace all of Ayer; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary C. and Rich Sperazzo of Laconia, NH, Agnes and John Shanahan, Monica J., and Brian Gill all of Ayer; her sister, Carol Castellano of Nashua, NH; eleven grandchildren, Anthony Sperazzo, Matthew Sperazzo, Meagan Monat, Michael Wallace, Mary B. Acuna, Julie Santiago, Stephen Wallace, Brian Wallace, Sarah Wallace, Matthew Gill, Ryan Gill; eight great-grandchildren, Aiden Monat, Emma Monat, Adeline Sperazzo, Nora Sperazzo, Adrianna Sperazzo, Sophie Sperazzo, Anthony Sperazzo, and Jack Wallace. She was predeceased by two infant children, Raymond Wallace in 1960, and Catherine Wallace in 1962, and three brothers, Paul McGuane Jr. of Ayer, Dr. Richard McGuane MD of Somers, CT, and Raymond McGuane of Chalfont, PA. The family would like to thank Nashoba Nursing and Hospice nurses and CNAs for their wonderful and compassionate care over the past 15 months as well as Maureen Heilner for additional at-home care. Phine’s funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday, March 24, 2023, at St. Anthony’s Church, 14 Phoenix Street, Shirley. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ayer. Phine’s family will receive relatives and friends at calling hours from 4 PM to 7 PM Thursday, March 23, 2023, at the Anderson Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Road (Rte. 2A) Ayer.
