Joan Aurora Rogers

Joan Aurora Rogers, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6, surrounded by her loving daughters. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Miller (2020), and her husband, Edwin H. Rogers (2009). Born in Paterson, New Jersey, to Aurora and William Miller, Joan graduated from Paterson Teachers College, supporting herself along the way through multiple jobs, a reflection of her determination and resilience. Joan enjoyed a fulfilling career as an elementary school teacher, with a brief chapter in real estate. She married Edwin Rogers in 1960 and lived in Martinsville, New Jersey. In 1977, they moved to Massachusetts, settling down in the picturesque town of Longmeadow, where they raised their three daughters, who were the center of her life and greatest source of pride. Joan always encouraged them to be themselves and to create their own best beautiful lives. Joan’s love for her daughters was constant and unwavering. Nancy (Jim) of Hudson, Pamela (Scott) of Centerville, and Melissa (Eric) of Feeding Hills brought her immeasurable joy, and she delighted in every milestone and moment they shared together. She was also devoted to her grandchildren - Samuel (25), Emily (23), Cameron (21), and step-grandson Jason (25) - offering encouragement, wisdom, and unconditional love. Joan had a gift for making others feel at home. Her door was always open, and her big warm smile made everyone feel welcome. She also had a deep affection for cats, and over the years shared her home with many beloved feline friends that brought her comfort, companionship, and joy. Joan found beauty in life’s simple pleasures — family beach vacations on the Jersey Shore, the bright blue sky, a bird’s sweet melody, the first blooms of spring, and her home filled with loved ones. You could find her singing in the kitchen, gathering around the player piano, reading, and tending to her garden. Joan was also a lover of Beatrix Potter stories and held a special appreciation for traditional art and music. Above all, Joan will be remembered for her devotion to family and the love she gave so generously. That love endures in all who knew her. A private gathering will be held on Cape Cod, a place where she held some of her most precious family memories.
