I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.” – II Timothy 4:7-8 Jacqueline Evett Ghee, beloved daughter of the late Marvell and Jean Stewart, entered eternal rest on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at 6:12 am in Augusta, Georgia. Affectionately known as “Jackie” or “Pookie” by her family and friends, Jackie was born on February 7, 1953, in Jackson, Mississippi. She was the youngest of four children. In the early 1960s, due to her father’s military service, the family relocated from Mississippi and lived in several locations, including Japan and Germany. Once stateside, they settled in Fort Devens, Massachusetts, which became their home. Jackie received her education through the Ayer, Massachusetts Public School System. In 1981, Jackie moved to Maryland with her oldest sister, Marva Jean, where she pursued her passion as a cosmetologist. She spent countless hours creating the latest and most fashionable hairstyles. After leaving the salons, Jackie became the manager of Sony’s Beauty Supply Store in Brooklyn Park, serving from the early 1980s until 1999. Anyone who met Jackie quickly noticed and admired her long, beautifully polished nails. She had an undeniable love for style and was rarely seen without her stacked bracelets and signature high-heeled shoes. Jackie especially adored gold – whether it shimmered on her nails, adorned her jewelry, or accented her clothing, gold was always a reflection of her timeless elegance and personal flair. Raised in a Christian home, Jackie loved singing unto the lord. She served as Director of the Fort Devens Mass Choir and was also a member of a singing trio that traveled and ministered alongside gospel artists such as Shirley Caeser. Jackie was well known for singing lead on one of her favorite songs, “He’s an On Time God.” Many cherished evenings were spent singing “Every Praise” with her great-grandchildren. She was a faithful member of several choirs, including the Gospel Choir, Voices of Wesley, the Mass Choir of John Wesley, and the Refuse Church Ministries II Choir. Jackie was predeceased by her sister, Marva Jean Sloan: grandson; Tres Stewart; niece, Michele Fletcher; and aunt Lora Davis. She leaves to cherish her memory three children; Arlisa Scurry (Gerald), Dean Stewart, and Charles “Chuckie” Ghee (Kathleen); her siblings, Alvin Stewart (Sarah) of Massachusetts and Jeri Nelson (Joe) of Georgia; nine grandchildren; Quinisha, Raphael, Keon, Shakina, Dean Jr., Erica, Devin (Meegan), Johnathan, and Dante; eight great great-grandchildren; Nasir, Athena, Jurnee, Leila, Keon, Jr., Keonté, Elliana, and Nevaeh; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
