Irene M. Barrett Nicholson

TOWNSEND; Irene M. (Puddicombe) Barrett Nicholson, 94 died Thursday July 21, 2022, peacefully, in her own home with family present. Irene was born in Fitchburg, May 9, 1928 the daughter of Reginald G. and Elizabeth (Bray) Puddicombe. She graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1946 and met her husband Jack at a dance at the Fitchburg Armory. Irene has resided in Townsend for nearly seventy years. She worked at New England Business Service in Townsend from 1962 to 1985. She enjoyed sewing and quilting with her friends and listening to music. She loved to cook and bake for family. She was a member of the North Leominster Congregational Church of Christ and the Crystal Light Club. Irene leaves two sons, Atty. John B. Barrett and his wife, Mary, of Townsend, Kevin Barrett and his wife Brenda, of Keene, NH; her daughter Cheryl McMahon of Nashua, NH; her stepson, James Nicholson and his wife, Lee of Leominster; her stepdaughter, Susan Teixeira and her husband, Ron of Spencer; her brother-in-law, William Barrett of Townsend; her sister-in-law Gloria Puddicombe of Leominster and her sister-in-law JoAnn Blood and her husband Robert of Peterborough, NH She also leaves 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, several cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. Irene was predeceased by her first husband John P. “Jack” Barrett in 1982; her second husband Frank Nicholson in 1995; her brother George Puddicombe; her son in law Brian McMahon; and her step-granddaughter Melissa Nicholson. The family would like to thank all the wonderful care givers who made it possible for Irene to stay in her home for the last several years. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Tuesday July 26, 2022 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 250 Main Street, (Rte 119) Townsend Center. Irene’s family will receive relatives and friends at calling hours 4-7 PM Monday, July 25.
