Florence R. Volpe, a lifelong resident of Fitchburg

Florence R. Volpe, 89, of Fitchburg, was received into the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ on the morning of March 31, 2026, surrounded by her family. Known as “Floey” to those who loved her, she lived a joyful and fulfilled life. She was the daughter of Nicholas and Josephine (Chiariello) Volpe of Fitchburg, both natives of Buccino, Salerno, Italy. Born in Fitchburg, MA, on July 21, 1936, she was a lifelong resident who grew up on Water Street and graduated from St. Bernard’s High School. Floey devoted over 40 years of her life to Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, rising to the role of branch administrator in Fitchburg. She took great pride in her work and considered her time with MetLife to be one of the highest honors of her life. A social and vibrant woman, she loved being with friends and embraced life. She enjoyed baseball and was an avid moviegoer. She was a member of the Serra Club, and the Cristoforo Colombo Regina Elena Sons of Italy Lodge. She also loved to travel, taking many trips to Cape Cod with friends and visiting countries including Italy, France, and Germany. Floey had a deep love for music and was a member of the Montachusett Chorale. She especially loved opera, a passion she shared with her brother Gerald, and they attended many performances together. A woman of deep faith, she was a lifelong member of St. Anthony’s Church in Fitchburg, where she was actively involved. She faithfully nurtured her spiritual life through daily prayer and was devoted to supporting nuns, missionaries, and seminarians. Above all, Floey cherished her family and her friends. She will be remembered for her gentleness, generosity, and unwavering love. She is survived by her sister, Anna (Volpe) Pacetti of Fitchburg; her nieces, Carol Cotnoir of Fitchburg and Sylvia Poirier and her husband, Russell, of Lunenburg; her nephew, Robert Pacetti of Fitchburg; Patricia Pacetti of Waltham, wife of her late nephew; and many great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Dr. Gerald R. Volpe; her brother-in-law, John Pacetti Sr.; her nephew, John Pacetti Jr.; Kevin Cotnoir, husband of her niece; and Marion Pacetti, wife of her nephew. Her family extends heartfelt thanks to the Resident Care Associates, especially Mafe and Rhoda, at her assisted living facility for their compassionate care over the past several years. Floey will be deeply missed on this side of eternity; but because of the Gospel, we know we will see her again. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 AM in St. Anthony de Padua Church, 84 Salem St., Fitchburg followed by a burial in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. A calling hour will be held prior to the funeral on Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 AM in the Isabelle & Anderson Funeral Home, 316 Clarendon St., Fitchburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Anthony’s Church of Fitchburg.
