Barbara A. Handy, formerly of Lunenburg

West Boylston – Barbara A. (Cozzolino) Handy, 81, of West Boylston formerly of Lunenburg, passed away on Wednesday evening, October 30, 2024 in the UMass Medical Center in Worcester. Barbara was born in Pittsfield on January 14, 1943, a daughter of the late Michael A. and Carmella (Fiorillo) Cozzolino. She graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1960 and the radiology technician program at St. Luke’s Hospital in 1962. Barbara worked as a radiology technician for her entire career starting out at the Berkshire Hospital and later working at Hillcrest Hospital, Burbank Hospital, and the Fallon Clinic where she retired from in 2012. To the end, Barbara was witty, clever, loving, and kind. She dedicated her life to her family and faith, exemplifying the virtues of generosity, selflessness, and kindness. Alongside her sisters, she nurtured a tight-knit culture of celebration, where family always came first. Later in life, she found joy in celebrating her children and grandchildren. Whether on the ice, in the theater, or on the field, she was a constant, loving presence. Steadfast in her devotion to her husband and children, her marriage to John Handy was a shining example of true love that never wavered, faltered, or dimmed. Her absence will be deeply felt in all the games, graduations, and Christmas mornings to come. Her husband, John A. Handy passed away in 2005. She leaves a son, Christopher J. Handy and his wife Maria of Lunenburg; a daughter, Heather L. Handy, and her husband Harley, of Carbondale, CO; two sisters Concetta Rabideau of Northborough and Marie Matthews of Pittsfield; six grandchildren, Rebecca Handy, Nathan Handy, Jessica Handy, Emily Handy, Stella Stroh, and Jacob Stroh and numerous nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by a daughter, Karen M. Handy, and her two sisters, Gloria Powers and Patricia Bianco. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 6 at 12 PM in Saint Boniface Church, 817 Massachusetts Ave., Lunenburg. Burial will follow in the North Cemetery in Lunenburg. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday morning, prior to the Mass in the T.J.
