Jeannette (Chaume) Fougere

LEOMINSTER - Jeannette (Chaume) Fougere, 87 of Leominster and formerly of Fitchburg, passed away at the Life Care Center of Leominster on Thursday, August 5, 2021. Born and raised in Fitchburg on January 31,1934, Jeannette was one of five siblings, born to the late Leander R. and Mary R. (Provincial) Chaume. Jeannette was a Graduate of St. Bernard's High School in Fitchburg - Class of 1952. She worked as a Site Manager for MOC Elderly Nutrition Program in Fitchburg for 10 years. Jeannette was a Hospital volunteer for over twenty years, first starting at Burbank Hospital in Fitchburg, and then volunteering at the registration desk at Health Alliance Hospital in Leominster. Jeannette enjoyed doing crafts. She has made several hundred stuffed Teddy Bears which were sent to the children of Haiti. She also made some Teddy Bears for the emergency department and the lab at Health Alliance Leominster Hospital. These bears were given to the little children who came in for services there. She was a member of the Prayer Shawl group of St. Joseph's Church, crocheting many shawls & lap robes for terminally ill patients in local hospitals and nursing homes. In addition to her parents, Jeannette was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Alcide J. Fougere who died in 2015; her son, William who died in 1965, and her two brothers, Leander (Pete) Chaume and Norman Chaume, both of Ashburnham, and her sister, Theresa Boivin of Leominster; son-in-law, Joseph Haggblad. Jeannette is survived by her three daughters, Donna L. Fougere of Fitchburg, Darlene A. Hays, and her husband Philip of Anacortes, WA, and Diane M. Haggblad of Fitzwilliam, N.H.; her grandsons, Kyle Hays and his wife Kelsi, and Tyler Hays, of Washington State; her great grandchildren, Connor and Jessamyn Hays, of Washington State; her sister, Yvonne Basque of Leominster. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., in St. Joseph's Church, 49 Woodland St., Fitchburg, MA. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Fitchburg. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jeannette’s memory to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org.
